Non-foil, non-plastic wrapping paper is recyclable in the blue cart. Foil, glittery or plastic-coated wrap goes in the black cart.

Why the blue cart?
Plain paper gift wrap pulps like any other paper. Metallic, glitter and plasticized wraps are laminates the mill can’t separate — the scrunch test tells them apart: paper stays scrunched, plastic-and-foil wrap springs back.
Get it right
- Do the scrunch test: crumple a piece — if it holds the ball shape, it’s recyclable paper.
- Remove ribbons and bows first; they tangle in sorting equipment and belong in the black cart (or the reuse drawer).
- Tissue paper is a weak fibre: small amounts can go in the green cart instead.
