How garbage collection works in Calgary
Every single-family home in Calgary gets three carts. The black cart is for garbage and is collected every two weeks, year-round. The blue cart is for recycling — paper, cardboard, containers, glass and bundled plastic bags — and is collected weekly, year-round. The green cart takes all food scraps (including meat and bones), food-soiled paper and yard waste; it's collected weekly from April to October and every two weeks from November to March.
Collection days vary street by street — two houses in the same community can have different pickup days, which is why a city-wide calendar can't tell you your schedule. This site uses the City of Calgary's official Open Data schedule for all 368,000+ serviced addresses, refreshed weekly, so you can look up your exact address instead of guessing. Carts should be out by 7 a.m. on collection day with about half a metre of clearance around each one.
