Keeping this guide current

Site updates

Calgary’s collection rules, landfill hours and holiday arrangements change during the year. This log records what we checked and what changed, newest first.

Schedule data

Address schedules come from the City of Calgary’s open data and are re-imported every week. The latest import finished on October 3, 2026. Pages are rebuilt every night so upcoming dates stay current.

  1. October review: new blue cart items, landfill hours and item answers

    • Rewrote every “what goes where” answer against the City’s current item pages, with step-by-step preparation and the most common mix-ups.
    • Updated aerosol cans: food and personal-care aerosols now go in the blue cart; containers with a hazard symbol still go to household hazardous waste.
    • Added pages for Spyhill, Shepard and East Calgary landfills with live open/closed status, holiday closures and fees.
    • Added landfill holiday closures to the holiday schedule, and noted East Calgary’s Sunday closure from November 2026.
    • Community pages now show the main pickup day for each cart and which alternating week applies next.
    • Replaced City source links that had moved after the October 1 recycling changes.
  2. Blue cart expansion takes effect

    • Snack bags, wrappers and pouches, tubes and foam packaging moved to the blue cart on October 1, 2026, following the City’s announcement.
  3. Full source review and redesign

    • Checked all disposal answers against City of Calgary sources and added source links and review dates to every answer.
    • Redesigned the site so the address lookup and item search are both visible on the first screen of a phone.
    • Community pages now use only published City schedule periods, never guessed dates.
