Office paper: blue cart
Blue cart — Recycling
Put printer paper, letters, file folders, sticky notes and receipts in the blue cart. Shredded paper must go in a clear bag that's tied closed.
How to prepare it
- Staples can stay in printed sheets, but take metal clips and fasteners off file folders and duotangs.
- Bag shredded paper in a clear or see-through plastic bag and tie the handles securely.
- Retail receipts printed on thermal paper are accepted too; remove any staples or paper clips first.
- Pull loose sheets out of binders for recycling; the binder, plastic sheet protectors and laminated pages go in the black cart.
Good to know
Shredding cuts paper into bits too small to sort, which is why the City requires the clear bag; loose shreds contaminate other recyclables. Unshredded paper should go in loose. Binders and protectors that are still usable can be donated, but contact the charity first. Paper soaked with food belongs in the green cart.
