Put newspapers, inserts and flyers in the blue cart. Newspaper you've used to wrap or hold food scraps goes in the green cart.
How to prepare it
- Pull papers out of plastic delivery bags and recycle the bag loose in the blue cart; bundling bags is no longer required.
- Remove elastic bands and reuse them or put them in the black cart.
- Lay newspapers loose in the cart rather than tying stacks or packing them into bags.
- Bag used newspaper pet bedding in a paper or certified compostable bag, close it, and put it in the green cart.
Good to know
The deciding factor is food. Clean newsprint, community newsletters and junk mail are recyclable, but once paper is covered in food bits, sauce or grease, the City wants it composted. If your blue cart is full, take extra papers to a community recycling depot instead of leaving stacks beside the cart.
