Paper coffee cups: blue cart
Blue cart — Recycling
Put empty paper coffee cups and sleeves in the blue cart. Take off the plastic lid and recycle it separately in the blue cart as well.
How to prepare it
- Pour out leftover coffee and wipe the inside with a napkin; the used napkin can go in the green cart.
- Separate the lid, straw, stir stick and drink plug from the cup, then put each in the blue cart.
- Cups clearly labelled compostable go in the green cart; a shiny cup without that label goes in the blue cart.
- In an apartment or condo, check whether your compost collector takes compostable cups before putting them in the green bin.
Good to know
Ordinary paper cups have a thin plastic lining that keeps them from going soggy, so the City keeps them out of the green cart and recycles them instead. Paper soup cups, frozen yogurt cups and fountain pop cups follow the same rule, and paper drink trays from the same order go in the blue cart too.
