Blue cart — Recycling
Put paper envelopes and letters in the blue cart. Paper, plastic and bubble-lined mailing envelopes go in the blue cart too.
How to prepare it
- Tear out plastic address windows and recycle them separately in the blue cart.
- Leave the shipping label on a plastic or padded mailer if it won't peel off easily.
- Empty mailers completely, and let the air out of any shipping air pillows packed inside before recycling them.
- Shred envelopes with personal details if you like, then put the shreds in a clear bag tied closed.
- Greeting cards and postcards can go in with the envelopes.
Good to know
Envelopes count as paper mail, so they are recycled with letters, flyers and junk mail. Bubble mailers with paper outside and bubble wrap inside are accepted in the blue cart as they are. Remove elastic bands and reuse them or put them in the black cart, and keep recyclables loose rather than bagged.
