Cardboard boxes: blue cart

Blue cart — Recycling

Flatten empty cardboard boxes and put them inside your blue cart with the lid closed. Take extra or oversized cardboard to a community recycling depot.

How to prepare it

  1. Peel off as much packing tape and as many labels as you can, and put the tape in the black cart.
  2. Cut or fold large boxes so every piece fits inside the cart; cardboard sticking out or left beside it isn't picked up.
  3. Unpack foam blocks, bubble wrap and deflated air pillows and recycle them separately; foam packing peanuts go in a tied bag.
  4. Hold extra boxes until your next pickup, or take them to a community recycling depot or City Eco Centre.

Good to know

The City does not collect cardboard left beside or on top of the blue cart, and it does not accept extra recycling set out in bags. Moving boxes, shoe and gift boxes, subscription boxes, TV boxes and drink flats are all accepted. Pizza boxes with food chunks, sauce or dried-on cheese are the exception and go in the green cart.
