Wax paper: blue cart
Blue cart — Recycling
Wipe food off wax paper, butcher's paper and patty paper, then put them in the blue cart. Don't put them in the green cart.
How to prepare it
- Scrape leftover food into the green cart and wipe off any residue with a napkin before recycling the paper.
- Patty paper used to separate burgers, cheese slices, deli meat or baked goods counts as coated paper and is recycled the same way.
- Put the sheets in the blue cart loose, not inside a plastic bag.
- Take extra wax or coated paper to a community recycling depot if your blue cart is full.
Good to know
Wax and similar coatings stop this paper from breaking down in compost, so the City keeps it out of the green cart even when it's greasy. Parchment looks similar but follows the opposite rule, because it is treated for cooking and usually food-soiled. If you can't tell them apart, check the original box.
