Take vehicle tires to a City Eco Centre. Up to 12 passenger tires a day, with or without rims, are recycled free when you bring no other garbage.
How to prepare it
- Head to the Eco Centre's designated tire area after weighing in at the scalehouse.
- Tractor tires and off-road tires up to 39 inches are also free, rims on or off; scooter and golf cart tires need the rims removed.
- Make it a tires-only trip; adding garbage makes the whole load chargeable unless you ask to weigh each material separately.
- Bicycle tires aren't part of the program, so put them in your black cart as rubber garbage.
Good to know
Vehicle tires are not allowed in the black cart. Large equipment tires, aircraft tires, foam-filled tires, rubber tubes and skid steer tracks are accepted for disposal at a charge instead, with rims separated, and the 12-per-day limit still applies. For other tire recycling options, the City points residents to the Alberta Recycling Management Authority.
