In Calgary, put this in the
Drop-off / depot
Tire retailers and Alberta Recycling depots take tires free of charge. Not allowed in carts.

Why it can’t go in a cart
Alberta’s tire recycling program — funded by the fee on every new tire — shreds old tires into crumb rubber for playgrounds, running tracks and paving products. That’s why drop-off is free and carts are off-limits.
Get it right
- Any tire shop will take your old tires when you buy new ones — the recycling fee you pay covers it.
- City landfills also accept tires for recycling, on or off the rim.
- Don’t stockpile tires in the yard: they collect water and breed mosquitoes, and they’re a fire risk.
