Drywall and lumber: drop-off
Drop-off / depot
Take renovation loads of drywall and lumber to a City Eco Centre, where charges apply, keeping drywall and clean wood separate. Small amounts can go in your carts.
How to prepare it
- Load drywall on its own; a drywall-only load gets a reduced rate, and wet, painted or vinyl-covered board still qualifies.
- Keep clean, untreated lumber and pallets in a separate pile too, since recyclable wood also has a lower rate.
- Small offcuts of untreated wood can go in the green cart if under 15 cm thick and 1.25 m long, with nails and screws removed.
- Put small amounts of drywall, grout and joint compound in the black cart, along with painted or treated wood within the same size limits.
Good to know
The separate drywall and wood rates are per tonne, so they matter on loads of 250 kg or more; lighter loads of charge items pay a $25 flat rate. Plywood, MDF, particle board, OSB and any wood with paint, stain or hardware attached never go in the green cart, because they would contaminate the compost.
