Concrete, brick and rubble
Small: black cart · large: landfill
Put small amounts of concrete, brick and rubble in your black cart, under 60 kg. Take larger loads to a City landfill and Eco Centre site; charges apply.
How to prepare it
- Fill the cart only about halfway with concrete or brick; that is roughly the 60 kg limit, and the cart should still roll easily.
- Break big chunks into smaller pieces so they don't damage the garbage truck, and make sure the lid closes.
- Double-bag cement dust, grout powder and other fine debris and tie the bags closed before they go in the cart.
- Keep rocks to hand-size or smaller in the black cart; boulders and large quantities go to an Eco Centre.
Good to know
Garden soil and dirt are compostable, so they go in your green cart rather than with rubble. Clean fill, meaning unprocessed soil, clay, sand or gravel with no debris, can be self-hauled free to a City landfill in a car or truck. A mixed load is charged as garbage: $25 flat under 250 kg in 2026, or by weight above that.
