Why it can’t go in a cart
There’s no curbside bulk collection in Calgary, so furniture has two exits: donation (several charities pick up free) or a landfill trip with weight-based fees. Reuse is cheaper and better on every axis.
Get it right
- Charities with furniture programs will often pick up from your home at no charge — book a week or two ahead.
- Online marketplaces move usable furniture fast, especially if it’s free at the curb only by arrangement.
- For the landfill, load so you can unload quickly — fees are by weight, and the Throw ‘n’ Go area handles furniture.
- Never leave furniture in the back lane; illegal dumping fines are steep.
