Greasy or food-soiled pizza boxes go in the GREEN cart (food & yard waste). Clean lids can be recycled in the blue cart.

Why the green cart?
Grease soaks into cardboard fibres and can’t be washed out at the paper mill — one oily box can downgrade a whole bale of recycling. Food-soiled paper composts beautifully though, so Calgary sends greasy boxes to the green cart.
Get it right
- Tear the box in half: clean lid to the blue cart, greasy base to the green cart.
- Leftover crusts and stuck-on cheese can stay in the box when it goes green — it all composts together.
- Rip large boxes into pieces so they fit and leave room for the cart lid to close fully.
