Pizza boxes
Some grease: blue · food/sauce: green
Empty pizza boxes with a little grease go in the blue cart. Boxes with food chunks, sauce or dried-on cheese go in the green cart.
How to prepare it
- Scrape crusts and leftover food into the green cart before deciding where the box goes.
- Put the corrugated cardboard or parchment liner from under the pizza in the green cart.
- If only the base is messy, tear off the clean lid for the blue cart and compost the rest.
- Flatten clean boxes so they fit inside the blue cart with the lid closed.
Good to know
The City draws the line between grease and food: some grease spots are fine for recycling, but sauce splatters, food chunks and stuck-on cheese mean the box goes in the compost. Leftover crusts and wing bones belong in the green cart too. After a party, take extra clean boxes to a community recycling depot rather than leaving them beside the cart.
