Paper egg cartons: blue cart
Blue cart — Recycling
Put empty paper egg cartons in the blue cart. Clear plastic and foam egg cartons go in the blue cart too.
How to prepare it
- Put any broken eggs and shells in the green cart so the carton goes in empty.
- Remove paper inserts or coverings from the carton and recycle them separately.
- Set cartons in the cart loose, not inside a plastic bag.
- Take extra cartons to a community recycling depot if your blue cart is full.
Good to know
You no longer need to sort egg cartons by material: since October 1, 2026, foam egg cartons are accepted in the blue cart along with paper and plastic ones. If you have a large amount of foam packaging, City Eco Centres also take it for free when you bring no other garbage.
