Clean foil and foil trays can be recycled in the blue cart. Heavily soiled foil goes in the black cart.

Why the blue cart?
Aluminum foil is the same infinitely recyclable metal as cans, but baked-on food ruins it for remelting. Clean foil gets sorted with the aluminum stream; greasy foil is garbage.
Get it right
- Scrunch clean foil into a ball at least fist-sized — loose scraps are too small and light to sort.
- Give pie plates and trays a rinse; if the residue won’t come off, black cart.
- Foil-lined chip bags are not foil — they’re plastic laminate and go in the black cart.
