Vacuum cleaner dust: black cart
Black cart — Garbage
Double-bag vacuum dirt, dust and lint, tie the bags closed, and put them in the black cart. Full disposable vacuum bags go in the black cart too.
How to prepare it
- Empty a bagless canister directly into a bag, place it inside a second bag, and tie it closed before it goes in the cart.
- Add dustpan sweepings, cobwebs and lint to the same double-bagged load instead of tipping them loose into the cart.
- Keep vacuum contents out of the green cart; they can contain materials that won't break down in compost.
- Before dropping off a broken vacuum for electronics recycling, empty the dust out of it.
Good to know
The double bag is a dust-control rule meant to protect your collector and keep trucks clean, and the City applies it to all dust and powders. The vacuum itself is not garbage: take a broken one with a cord or battery to an electronics recycling drop-off or a City Eco Centre for free, and donate one that still works.
