Broken ceramics or mirror: black cart
Black cart — Garbage
Wrap broken ceramics and mirror glass safely and put them in the black cart. They are not recyclable; take oversized pieces to an Eco Centre.
How to prepare it
- Seal sharp pieces in a puncture-resistant, non-breakable container, such as a plastic tub or pail with a lid.
- Alternatively, wrap the pieces in two layers of paper and place them in a tied bag.
- Mark the package 'sharps' with a permanent marker so collectors handle it with care.
- Pieces too large for the cart can go to a City Eco Centre, where charges apply.
Good to know
Mirrors, dishes, mugs, vases and other ceramic or porcelain items are not recyclable, even when they are made of glass. Only glass food jars and bottles go in the blue cart, and a broken jar can still go there loose. Whole items in good shape can be donated; contact the charity first to confirm it is accepting housewares.
