In Calgary, put this in the
Black cart — Garbage
Wrap broken glass or mirror to prevent injury and place in the black cart.
Also searched as: mirror, broken glass.
Why the black cart?
Mirror glass has a metallic backing and window/ceramic material melts differently than bottle glass — all of it contaminates container-glass recycling, and unwrapped shards injure the people who handle your waste.
Get it right
- Wrap shards in several layers of newspaper or box them, tape it shut, and label it “broken glass” if you can.
- Large intact mirrors and windows can go to a landfill, or a reuse store if undamaged.
- Never place broken glass loose in any cart — collection is partly manual.
