In Calgary, put this in the
Black cart — Garbage
Natural and synthetic corks go in the black cart.
Also searched as: wine cork, cork.
Why the black cart?
Calgary’s green cart doesn’t accept natural cork (it breaks down too slowly for the facility’s process) and synthetic corks are plastic — so both kinds land in the black cart.
Get it right
- Some liquor stores and craft groups collect natural corks for reuse projects.
- Can’t tell natural from synthetic? Natural cork has irregular pores; synthetic is uniform and slightly rubbery.
- The foil capsule from the bottle top goes in the black cart too; the bottle itself is deposit-refundable.
