Corks
Natural: green · synthetic: black
Natural wine corks go in the green cart for composting. Synthetic (plastic) corks go in the black cart as garbage.
How to prepare it
- Not sure which type you have? Natural cork breaks apart, while a synthetic cork holds together.
- Rinse the empty wine bottle and put it in the blue cart, or return it to a bottle depot for any deposit refund.
- Recycle metal screw caps, including aluminum wine caps, in the blue cart separately from the bottle.
Good to know
The deciding factor is the material: natural cork breaks down and can be composted, while synthetic corks do not, which is why they belong in the black cart. If you take wine bottles back to a bottle depot instead of recycling them at home, the caps can stay on.
