Why the black cart?
Foam peanuts are unrecyclable polystyrene and nearly weightless, so they escape and scatter at every step of collection. Bagging them before they go in the black cart keeps them out of the wind and the river.
Get it right
- Bag or box peanuts before binning so they don’t blow out of the truck.
- Shipping stores often take clean peanuts back for reuse — call ahead.
- The starch-based kind dissolve in water — if a peanut melts under the tap, that batch can go in the green cart.
