Clothing and textiles: drop-off
Drop-off / depot
Donate clothing, shoes and linens in good shape. Worn, torn or stained textiles go free to a City Eco Centre for recycling, not in any cart.
How to prepare it
- Make sure items are clean; textile recycling accepts ripped or damaged fabric, but not dirty fabric.
- Bag textiles before dropping them in the Eco Centre bin to keep them dry.
- Find donation bins with the City's Textile Donation locator, or contact charities such as Goodwill Alberta, Kidney Clothes or Women in Need Society.
- Some retailers, including H&M, Uniqlo and ZARA, may take back their own clothing; ask the store.
- Only carry-on suitcases fit the Eco Centre textile bin, so donate larger luggage to a thrift store.
Good to know
Clothing, shoes and textiles are banned from the black cart, and as products rather than packaging they do not go in the blue cart either. The Eco Centre program takes natural and synthetic fabrics, bedding, towels, bags, belts, sleeping bags and tents without poles. Small scraps of fabric, yarn and thread can go in the black cart.
