Why it can’t go in a cart

Textiles are one of the fastest-growing waste streams, and none of it belongs in the blue cart — fabric tangles sorting machinery. Donation and textile-recycling bins keep wearable clothes in use and turn worn-out fabric into rags and insulation.

Get it right

  • Donation bins and thrift stores take clean, dry clothing and shoes — even worn items, which they sell on for fibre recycling.
  • Stained or torn textiles can still go in a textile-recycling bin if clean; truly soiled fabric goes in the black cart.
  • Never put clothing in the blue cart — it’s a top contaminant at the sorting facility.
