Cling wrap: blue cart
Blue cart — Recycling
Clean cling wrap, such as Saran or Glad wrap, goes in the blue cart. Rinse off food first; it no longer needs to be bundled in a bag.
How to prepare it
- Rinse or wipe away any food residue; the City only accepts plastic film that is clean.
- Drop the wrap into the cart loose instead of stuffing it inside another bag.
- Pull shrink wrap and overwrap off cardboard trays or boxes and recycle each material separately.
- Stretchy wrap from toilet paper, paper towel and water bottle multipacks goes in the blue cart the same way.
Good to know
Older advice was to gather stretchy plastic in one tied bag, but the City's current guidance says bundling plastic film and bags is no longer required. Clean film is the key condition. Cling wrap never goes in the green cart, even when it was used on food; scrape the food into your compost pail and recycle the clean film.
