Why the green cart?
Fall leaves are the carbon backbone of good compost — the City facility blends leafy “browns” with wet food waste to keep the process balanced. That’s also why green cart pickup stays weekly through October.
Get it right
- Loose in the cart first; overflow goes in paper yard-waste bags beside the cart during the fall season.
- Never use plastic bags for leaves — bagged-in-plastic yard waste can’t be composted.
- Mulching a layer of leaves into the lawn or garden beds over winter is free soil improvement.
