Green cart — Compost
Put leaves in the green cart. When it is full, use paper yard waste bags with the tops rolled closed and set them beside the cart.
How to prepare it
- Place extra bags 0.5 m (2 ft) from the cart, not leaning on it, and keep each under 20 kg.
- Use paper yard waste bags only; leaves in plastic or biodegradable bags are not accepted.
- Pine needles, pine cones and fallen tree fruit like crabapples can go in with your leaves.
- Until October 31, 2026, households can take extra leaves to a City Eco Centre for free; bring yard waste only, with no sod or food scraps.
Good to know
Fall is a busy time. The City collects everything inside green carts but may limit extra bags so every household gets service; store any bags left behind on your property until the following week. If you drive leaves to an Eco Centre, secure the load, and visit on a weekday or before 9 a.m. on weekends for shorter waits.
