Branches and tree prunings: green cart

Green cart — Compost

Put branches and prunings in the green cart in pieces under 15 cm (6 in) across and 1.25 m (4 ft) long, with the lid able to close.

How to prepare it

  1. Fill the green cart first, then put extra cut branches in paper yard waste bags with the tops rolled closed.
  2. Set extra bags 0.5 m (2 ft) from the cart, not leaning on it, and keep each one under 20 kg.
  3. Keep the loaded cart under its 60 kg limit; if it rolls easily, it should be fine.
  4. Bag diseased or pest-infested branches, tie them closed and put them inside the black cart.
  5. Until October 31, 2026, take extra or oversized branches to a City Eco Centre for free; charges may apply at other times.

Good to know

In busy yard season the City collects everything inside the cart but may limit extra bags; keep any left behind on your property until next week. Diseased trees and shrubs stay out of compost so pests do not spread; large loads go to a City landfill, where charges apply.
