Why the green cart?
Dead houseplants, cut flowers and even noxious weeds are all safe in the green cart — the composting process runs hot enough to kill weed seeds, which backyard compost piles usually can’t.
Get it right
- Knock the soil off root balls first: dirt is heavy, and large amounts of soil aren’t accepted in the cart.
- The plastic pot goes in the black cart (black plastic) or back to a garden centre for reuse.
- Weeds with seed heads are fine here — better in the hot City process than in your backyard composter.
