Why the green cart?
Clippings compost readily, but the even better option is not collecting them at all: left on the lawn, they break down within days and return nitrogen to the soil — free fertilizer, and a lighter cart.
Get it right
- Dump clippings loose into the cart — no bags of any kind, including compostable ones for yard waste volume.
- Try grasscycling: mow high, mow often, leave the clippings. Your lawn will be greener for it.
- Extra clippings in paper yard-waste bags can be set beside the cart during the City’s seasonal yard-waste periods.
