Why the green cart?
Real trees are chipped and composted into mulch through the City’s January treecycling program — a second life for the tree instead of a landfill trip. Tinsel and hooks are the enemy: metal and plastic bits contaminate the chipped material.
Get it right
- Strip every light, ornament, hook and strand of tinsel — inspect twice, chippers can’t.
- Cut the trunk and branches to fit inside the green cart with the lid closed, or take the whole tree to a January drop-off site for free.
- Artificial trees can’t be composted or recycled: donate a usable one, or take it to a landfill.
