Pouches and zipper bags: blue cart
Blue cart — Recycling
Empty, clean food pouches, stand-up pouches and resealable zipper bags, such as Ziploc bags, go loose in the blue cart.

How to prepare it
- Squeeze leftover baby food, applesauce or sauce into the green cart; caps and spouts can stay on the pouch.
- Shake crumbs, coffee or frozen-food bits out of stand-up pouches and freezer bags, turning bags inside out if needed.
- Pouches for cereal, granola, trail mix, shredded cheese, coffee, frozen fruit, dishwasher or laundry pods and dog food are all accepted.
- Put pouches in the cart loose; you do not need to bundle them inside another bag.
Good to know
Pouches joined the blue cart on October 1, 2026. A pouch labelled compostable or biodegradable still does not go in the green cart; the City says coffee and snack bags with those labels do not break down at its composting facility. Every pouch must be empty, including pouches that held detergent pods. Juice pouches are drink containers: return them to a bottle depot for any deposit, or recycle them at home.
