Black cart — Garbage
Bag soiled diapers and diaper liners, double-bag them and tie the bags securely, then put them in the black cart as garbage.
How to prepare it
- Used baby wipes and cotton balls go in the black cart as well.
- Never flush diapers or liners; they can harm your drain pipes and the environment.
- Adult and postpartum diapers, incontinence pads and underpads follow the same rule: bag them and put them in the black cart.
- An empty plastic wipes package can go in the blue cart, but the used wipes themselves are garbage.
Good to know
Diapers marked biodegradable or compostable are the most common mix-up. The City does not accept any disposable diaper in the green cart, because elastics, tabs and other synthetic parts do not break down and would contaminate the finished compost. Diapers are also on the City's list of items to keep out of the blue cart, so the black cart is the only home for them.
