Electronics and e-waste: drop-off
Drop-off / depot
Take computers, TVs, printers and other plug-in or battery-powered electronics to a City Eco Centre for free recycling, or donate items that still work.
How to prepare it
- Wipe hard drives, sign out of accounts and clear SIM cards before drop-off; the City isn't responsible for data left at depots it doesn't partner with.
- Keep the load electronics-only so it stays free, or ask the scalehouse to weigh your other materials separately.
- Leave the rechargeable battery attached to cordless power tools; the City requires it for the tool to be recycled.
- Other options include Shanked Computer Recycling, Technotrash Alberta and some electronics stores; contact them first about accepted items and fees.
Good to know
Electronics are not allowed in any cart, blue, black or green. City Eco Centres accept a different list of items than other electronics depots, so check before you go. Working computers and TVs can go to family or friends, be sold online, or be donated to charities such as Calgary Drop-In Centre or Women in Need Society.
