Drop-off / depot
Recycle old phones free at a City Eco Centre or another electronics drop-off, or donate a working phone. Phones never go in any cart.
How to prepare it
- Back up what you need, then delete your personal information and clear the SIM card before handing the phone over.
- Include the charger and cable; the City's electronics program accepts them along with the phone.
- Pass a working phone to family or friends, or call Calgary Drop-In Centre, Diabetes Canada or Women in Need Society about donating it.
- If the battery is swollen, leaking or corroded, take the phone to an Eco Centre and hand it to staff, explaining its condition.
Good to know
Built-in batteries can be crushed and start fires, which is why phones are banned from the blue, black and green carts. Retail battery drop-offs accept loose batteries only, not devices, so a phone with a non-removable battery goes to an Eco Centre or electronics drop-off. Eco Centre drop-off is free unless your load includes other garbage.
