Why it can’t go in a cart
Cables are mostly high-grade copper under plastic insulation — valuable at a recycler, but a nightmare in the blue cart where they tangle sorting machinery exactly like garden hoses do.
Get it right
- Collect a drawer’s worth and drop them with your next e-waste run — chargers, HDMI, extension cords, all of it.
- Working chargers and cables are welcome at thrift stores.
- Holiday light strings count as cords too — recycle, don’t bin.
