Milk and juice cartons: blue cart
Blue cart — Recycling
Empty and rinse milk, juice and soup cartons, including juice boxes, and put them loose in your blue cart. Plastic caps can stay on.
How to prepare it
- Pour leftover milk or juice into your kitchen compost pail over newspaper or paper towel instead of down the sink.
- Give the carton a quick rinse and shake out the water; screw caps and flip-top lids can stay attached.
- Pull off plugs and pull tabs from soup and broth cartons and recycle them separately.
- Return drink cartons that carried a deposit to a bottle depot for a refund, or simply recycle them at home.
Good to know
Soup, broth and liquid egg-white cartons look like drink cartons but have no bottle deposit, so the blue cart is where they go. Ice cream cartons are recyclable too, not compostable, because of their plastic lining; remove the plastic rim from the lid if it comes off easily.
