Why the blue cart?
Cartons are mostly high-quality paper fibre with thin poly (and sometimes foil) layers. Specialized carton recyclers separate the layers with water, recovering long paper fibres that make tissue and paper towel.
Get it right
- Rinse, and push straws back inside juice boxes so they travel with the carton.
- Caps stay on — modern carton recycling handles them, and loose caps are unsortable.
- Milk and plant-milk cartons carry an Alberta deposit; a bottle depot refunds it.
- No need to flatten — cartons are optically sorted by shape.
